Oral Presenters

All presenters are required to upload their presentation slides in the Victoria Suite 3.

To reach the Victoria Suite 3, from the registration desk, please take a right past the poster boards, and you will see the doors to the suite on the left.

Please ensure that your presentation file is named with Full Name - Time of talk.
For example: {{FirstName}} {{Surname}} - 1500

You will receive a clicker to advance your slides, and your presenter notes will be visible on a laptop placed at the lectern. Please note that you cannot use your own laptop to present.

The speaker's preparation room will be open at the following times:

  • Monday 14 July | 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Tuesday 15 July | 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Wednesday 16 July | 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM
  • Thursday 17 July | 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM

After your presentation, delegates will have the opportunity to ask you questions during a brief Q&A, led by the session chair.

Tips for a successful Q&A:

  • Look at your presentation objectively, and use audience analysis (in the preparation phase) to predict questions. Run through a mock Q&A session with some trusted colleagues, family or friends. They are guaranteed to come up with some tricky questions that you didn’t expect. Encourage them to evaluate your responses.
  • When a person asks a question from the floor, take a moment to repeat it back to them. Doing this provides two benefits: You increase the likelihood that the audience has heard the question, and that you understand the question being asked.
  • Show them professional courtesy by listening to their entire question before responding. Smile and look your questioner in the eye as you answer their question. The eye contact shows that you are focusing carefully on the question and the questioner.
  • Presenters will often say “This is getting off topic, but the answer is…” and then proceed to bore most of the audience. It’s better to say, “That’s a great question, but a little off topic. I’m happy to discuss that with you after the presentation.”
  • For relevant questions, keep your answers clear and to the point. If you feel yourself waffling, stop, take a breath and confirm the key points of your answer.
  • Maintain your integrity whenever and wherever you speak. Answer questions straight. If you don’t know the answer, then say so. Don’t lie. Don’t mislead. Nothing erodes the credibility you’ve built with the audience or makes them doubt your message more than avoiding the question.
