Dr Joel Williams is a Senior Lecturer in Quantitative Marine Ecology at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies. Joel’s research interests span a range of topics from biodiversity mapping, remote sensing, temperate mesophotic ecosystems, Southern Ocean ecology, fisheries management, and monitoring program design and implementation. He has an extensive collaborative network, working with researchers from CSIRO, AAD, GeoScience Australia, NSW Department of Fisheries, University of New South Wales, University of Sydney, University of Western Australia, University of Melbourne and Deakin University. Prior to starting at the University of Tasmania in 2021, Joel was working at the NSW Department of Fisheries working on marine park assessments, surveying threatened species (White Sharks, Grey Nurse Sharks, and Black Cod), and collaborating on several NESP Marine Biodiversity Hub projects aimed at mapping biodiversity values of the newly establish Australian Marine Parks.
