CAPSTAN, Institute of Marine and Antarctic Science (IMAS), University of Tasmania, TAS, Australia

During AMSA 2024, I will be representing the Collaborative Australian Post-Graduate Sea Training Alliance Network (CAPSTAN). CAPSTAN is a sea training program on the RV Investigator that aims to transform marine science education through the development of a national approach to teaching and learning in the marine realm. I am a senior lecturer in oceanography and researcher in the field of micronutrient biogeochemistry at the Institute or Marine and Antarctic Studies, within the University of Tasmania. I am interested in the distribution, sources, sinks and biological controls of micronutrients such as iron, manganese, zinc and others within the Southern Ocean and coastal Antarctica. I have spent over a year, deep in the Southern Ocean and Antarctica over 10 major field campaigns collecting data to support my and others research. During this work, I have also developed novel hardware to probe the waters deep under Antarctic ice shelves and make year-round observations in the middle of the Southern Ocean autonomously.
