Started career in fisheries, particularly aquaculture research in Walkamin, Far North Qld, after completing a masters in Tropical Fish Health Management. Explored aquatic ecosystems such as fish surveys on Cape York Peninsula and aquatic life as water quality indicators in tropical rivers. Researched developing aquaculture techniques for native fish in Australia and PNG, then moved into improving techniques for water and management efficiency. This included disease management. Moved to Canberra to work with DAFF on aquatic biosecurity including aquatic animal health and marine pests. After 14 winters in Canberra moved back to the tropics in Darwin as Aquatic Biosecurity and Pearling manager. This includes marine pest surveillance, managing translocation of aquatic animals, an incoming vessel inspection program, investigating feral fish sightings and fish kills and acting on them where possible, manging in-water cleaning and marine pest detections, public education and engagement with indigenous ranger groups.
